Still not sure? Allow us to explain in more detail how this works. First, supporters of Romney pledge to match someone else's actual contribution, up to a certain dollar amount (the idea being they pledge to contribute in matching funds more than they would otherwise give). They do not send any money. And no one ever sends money to us; all contributions are made at the official website. • Second, another person decides to contribute, knowing that their contribution will be matched dollar for dollar by the pledged contributions. They make their contribution on the official website of the campaign, using the contribution code #879001. • Third, we contact those who have pledged to contribute, informing them how they need to match. The pledged contributions are then made using the contribution code #879002 (so we can ensure that those pledging to contribute fulfill their matching commitment). • We mail our printout of the contribution receipts to both contributors. (We keep all personal information confidential, only providing the name and mailing address of a contributor to the contributor they are linked with. If requested, however, we will also remove a contributor's name and address from the receipt we mail out). Question: Do you get any cut of the contributions made (akin to a sales commission)? Answer: We don't make a dime from our fundraising efforts. We are not paid in any way from the Romney campaign. Question: If you don't get a cut of the contribution, why do I have to use the contribution ID #879001 when I give? Answer: This is purely for tracking purposes. Any contribution given under the ID 879001 will trigger a matching contribution from one of our pledged supporters. Pledged contributors need to give using the code so we can see that they are fulfilling their commitment to give. Question: Why should I give money to Mitt? He's a millionaire! Answer: True enough, and some folks love to attack Mitt for that. The fact is, most of the candidates are millionaires, but it takes enormous amounts of money to win the presidency. Mitt has to pay for in ads what some of his competition got for free for various reasons. Mitt has had tremendous success with fundraising, and his campaign is making sure every dollar counts! (You can help make sure each dollar counts twice!) Question: Is it too late to make a difference? The primaries are so close. Answer: It is definitely not too late! We have it on good authority that the campaign is still using money raised to put out more ads in the early states. Your money WILL make a difference! |
